Gym Change Room, Shower and Washroom Cleaning
Our gym change room cleaning takes every wet area back to a standard members trust: scrubbed grout, clear drains, clean pans and urinals, dry benches and lockers, with mould held off on a set cycle and smells dealt with at their source. It is for owners who know the change rooms are where members make up their minds, and who want them right every morning and still right by lunchtime. Wet areas are one of the core services we run for gyms.
- Grout and drains, every visit
- Mould prevention cycle
- Touch cleans during busy hours

What members checkThe drain, the grout line and the smell by the lockers. Three things, and all of them fixable.
Why it matters
Why does gym change room cleaning decide your reviews?
Change rooms decide reviews because every member uses them, they notice every flaw, and a bad one feels personal in a way a worn bench does not. Gym change room cleaning that holds up all day does more for retention than almost any other line in the budget.
Read the one-star reviews of almost any gym and the same words come up: smell, hair, mould, dirty showers. Equipment complaints are rarer and gentler. People forgive a broken cable machine far faster than a shower they did not want to stand in.
Change rooms are also the hardest zone to hold. They are wet all day, used by everyone and cleaned by nobody between visits unless it is planned. A room that is perfect at 5am can be tired by 10am on a busy morning.
That is why this service is built around frequency as well as depth: a full clean at every visit, and short touch cleans through the day on sites that need them.

- Shower floors, walls and screens
- Grout lines and silicone
- Floor wastes and traps
- Toilets, urinals and cisterns
- Basins, taps and mirrors
- Benches, lockers and hooks
- Hand dryers and dispensers
- Floors finished dry
Showers
How are showers cleaned: grout, screens and drains?
Showers are scrubbed at the grout line, not just rinsed. Walls and floors are cleaned with an alkaline product for body oil and soap, screens are squeegeed dry, drains have hair cleared from the grate and trap, and taps and shower heads are wiped and polished.
Grout
Brushed along the lines with an alkaline cleaner that lifts body oil. Darkening grout is usually film, not stain, and comes back to colour with regular scrubbing.
Screens and glass
Because Melbourne's supply is soft water, screens cloud mostly with soap and skin oil. A squeegee at every visit stops the build-up that would later need harsher products.
Drains
Hair is removed from the grate and the trap every visit, and traps are treated regularly so they do not start to smell. Blockages further down the pipe go to a plumber.
Gym shower cleaning follows the same order every time: top to bottom, back to front, then out of the cubicle. Walls first so dirty water runs onto floors that have not been done yet, floors next, then the drain, then a dry finish.
Products stay separate. Shower cloths are yellow and never leave the shower zone, toilet cloths are red and never leave the toilets. It sounds basic, and it is exactly what a cheaper crew skips when the night runs long.
Mould
How do you prevent mould instead of fighting it?
Mould is prevented by keeping surfaces dry, treating grout lines and corners on a regular cycle, and fixing the airflow problems that let moisture sit. A once-a-year blitz removes what is visible and lets it grow straight back, because the conditions have not changed.
- 1Dry every visitScreens, floors and ledges squeegeed so water does not sit overnight.
- 2Treat on a cycleGrout, corners and silicone edges treated weekly with a suitable product.
- 3Check the airflowWeak exhaust fans and blocked vents flagged in the report with photos.
- 4Reseal what is goneBlack silicone cannot be cleaned back. We flag it for re-sealing.

Mould needs moisture and time. Take away the standing water after each visit and treat the places it likes before it shows, and most change rooms stay clear for good.
Where mould keeps coming back on a ceiling or high wall, the cause is almost always ventilation, not cleaning. Melbourne's damp winters make weak exhaust fans much more obvious. We will tell you that rather than charging for the same clean every month.
Products are chosen for the surface and never mixed. Combining bleach-based cleaners with acids or ammonia releases dangerous gases, so wet-area chemicals are kept apart and labelled.

Toilets, benches, lockers
How are toilets, benches and lockers cleaned?
Toilets and urinals are cleaned inside and out with red-coded equipment, including seats, hinges, cisterns, flush buttons and the floor around the pan. Benches, locker doors, handles and hooks are disinfected, and locker insides are cleaned on a set cycle.
The floor around a toilet or urinal is where smell starts, so it gets its own attention at every visit, including the grout at the base of the pan and the wall behind a urinal.
Benches take wet towels and bare skin all day. They are cleaned with a product that suits the surface, timber or laminate, and dried so they are not damp when the first member sits down.
Lockers are touched constantly. Doors, handles and keypads are disinfected every visit, and empty lockers are cleaned inside on a weekly or monthly cycle depending on how many are in use.
Odour
How is change room odour treated at the source?
Change room odour comes from drains, the floor around toilets and urinals, damp lockers and towels, and weak ventilation. We clean and treat each source directly, because air fresheners and fragrance only mask the smell and make the room smell worse once they wear off.
| Where the smell starts | What we do about it |
|---|---|
| Floor wastes and traps | Hair and film cleared every visit, traps treated, rarely used drains topped up with water |
| Around toilets and urinals | Base of the pan, grout and the wall behind urinals scrubbed each visit |
| Lockers and benches | Doors and handles disinfected, insides cleaned on a cycle, damp towels reported |
| Exhaust and airflow | Vents cleaned, weak fans flagged for maintenance |
| Bins | Emptied, lined and wiped inside, including sanitary bins where supplied by a provider |
A gym that smells of fragrance at 6am and drains at 10am has a cleaning problem wearing perfume. Treat the source and the room simply smells of nothing, which is what members want.
Touch cleans
How often should change rooms be touched up during staffed hours?
Busy change rooms usually need two to four short touch cleans a day on top of the main clean, timed after the morning rush, over lunch and before the evening peak. Each one resets floors, basins, mirrors, bins and consumables in fifteen to twenty minutes.
Touch cleans are not a second full clean. They are quick resets of the things members notice first: water on the floor, hair in the drain, a full bin, an empty soap dispenser. On a big site that is the difference between a room that holds its standard and one that slides.
Smaller gyms often need only one, in the late afternoon, before the busiest block of the day. We set the times from your peak hours, then adjust after a month.
Good washroom hygiene between visits also depends on members. Clear signs about wet towels, a place for them, and enough bins go a long way, and we can suggest what works.

A day in a busy change room Example
- 4:30amFull clean finished, floors dry, stock topped up
- 6:00amEarly rush begins
- 9:30amTouch clean: floors, drains, basins, bins
- 12:30pmTouch clean after the lunch peak
- 4:30pmTouch clean before the evening wave
- OvernightFull clean, grout and drains, restock
Times are an example. Touch cleans follow your own peaks.
Programs
How do change rooms fit into a daily program?
In a daily program, change rooms get a full clean at every visit, a weekly pass on locker insides and vents, and a quarterly deep clean of grout, silicone and wall tiles to the ceiling. Touch cleans and consumables stocking can be added to the same agreement.
- Every visit
- Full clean, drains, restock
- Weekly
- Locker insides, vents, grout treatment
- Quarterly
- Deep clean of grout and walls
- Optional
- Daytime touch cleans
Programs and their terms are explained under gym cleaning contracts, and the heavier wet-area work is part of our quarterly deep cleans.
Some gyms buy gym cleaning and restroom services from different people, one for the floor and one for the washrooms. It rarely saves money and it always creates a gap, so we price both together and let you compare.
Quote
How do you quote your wet areas?
Send the number of change rooms, showers, toilets and urinals, your opening hours and your busiest times, plus photos of the grout and drains if you can. Wet areas are priced by fixture count as much as floor area, and a fixed per-visit figure follows within 24 hours.
- 1Count the fixturesShowers, toilets, urinals, basins and roughly how many lockers.
- 2Tell us your peaksSo touch cleans, if you want them, land at the right times.
- 3Send a few photosGrout, drains and silicone show us the starting point.

Wet areas take longer per square metre than any other part of a gym, so an honest quote counts fixtures rather than just measuring the room.
The hygiene reasoning behind our wet-area method, including why contact times matter, is set out in our gym hygiene standards guide. Tinea spreads in warm, damp communal areas, which the Better Health Channel covers in plain language.
Rates are explained on our pricing page, our wider gym cleaning in Melbourne work is on the homepage, or you can get a quote for your change rooms now.
