Gym Deep Cleaning: The Quarterly Reset
Our gym deep cleaning services are the quarterly reset for everything a routine visit cannot reach: under and behind machines, fans and vents, grout, upholstery and high ledges. It is for owners heading into an audit, a sale or a busy season, and for anyone whose regular clean has stopped making a visible difference. Deep cleans sit alongside the rest of our gym cleaning services.
- Machines moved under an agreed plan
- Before and after photos
- Overnight, no closure needed

Signs you are dueDust on the fan blades, darkening grout, and a floor under the treadmills nobody has seen in months.
Scope
What does a gym deep clean cover?
A gym deep clean covers the areas routine visits skip: floors under and behind every machine, fans, vents and high ledges, grout and wet-area walls, upholstery, lockers inside and out, skirting, and mirrors and internal glass at full height.
| Zone | Routine visit | Deep clean |
|---|---|---|
| Floors | Open floor, by surface | Under and behind kit, edges, corners, skirting |
| Equipment | Touchpoints | Frames, shrouds, cable guards, undersides of pads |
| Wet areas | Fixtures, floors, drains | Grout scrub, wall tiles to the ceiling, exhaust vents, traps |
| Lockers | Doors and handles | Inside, tops, bases and vents |
| High areas | Visual check | Fans, vents, ledges, light fittings within reach |
| Glass | Head-height smudges | Full-height mirrors, partitions and frames |
| Soft surfaces | Wipe down | Upholstery cleaned, mats washed on both sides |
The point is not to clean harder. It is to reach the places a nightly crew never has time for, so the routine visit can stay quick and consistent. A deep clean done properly makes the next three months of daily cleaning easier and cheaper.
Every fitness centre deep clean also produces a record. Each zone is photographed before and after, which gives owners and head offices something concrete to check against, and gives the next deep clean a baseline to beat.
We plan the order around drying time and noise. Dusty high work goes first so it falls onto floors that have not been cleaned yet, wet areas follow, and floors are finished last.
Each deep clean is also a chance to fix the routine. If the photos show one zone slipping between quarters, we change the nightly scope rather than waiting for the next reset to catch it.
Under, behind, above
What gets cleaned under, behind and above the machines?
We move cardio and selectorised machines on an agreed plan, clean the floor and frame underneath, and return each unit to its marked spot. Above head height, fans, vents, ledges and light fittings within safe reach are dusted and then washed down.
Treadmills and cross-trainers pull dust and hair underneath them all day, because the motor fan draws air through the base. Servicing the belt and motor is the maker's job, but the floor and frame beneath the unit are ours. Leave them for a year and grey fluff starts drifting out from every machine on the cardio floor.
Bolted racks and very heavy plate-loaded units are not moved. We clean around and beneath them with long-reach tools instead. High work stays within safe reach from a platform ladder, and anything that needs a scissor lift or other powered access is scoped as a separate job.
Fans are the item members notice without realising it. A ceiling fan coated in dust throws it back down over the floor every time it spins, so the blades are wiped wet, not dry-dusted.

Machine-moving protocol Agreed before night one
- BeforeFloor positions marked or photographed so each unit goes back exactly where it was
- PowerMachines switched off and unplugged, cables coiled away from the walkway
- MoveTwo-person lift or furniture skates. Nothing is dragged across rubber
- CleanFloor, frame and levelling feet cleaned, any damage noted and photographed
- ReturnUnit replaced, levelled, powered on to confirm it starts
Anything we find, from a cracked cable guard to a slow leak, goes in the report with a photo.
Odour
How do you deal with gym odour at the source?
Odour is fixed by finding where it starts, usually drains, lockers, mats, upholstery or turf, and cleaning that source properly. Fragrance, deodorising sprays and fogging only cover the smell, and it returns within a day or two.
| What you smell | Where it usually starts | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Sour, drain-like in change rooms | Floor wastes and traps coated in hair and soap, or drying out | Clear, scrub and treat traps; top up rarely used drains |
| Musty near the lockers | Damp towels left inside, poor airflow through locker vents | Lockers washed inside, vents cleaned, airflow flagged |
| Stale sweat on the gym floor | Upholstery, mats and turf holding sweat | Pads cleaned, mats washed both sides, turf extracted |
| Rubbery or chemical | New rubber flooring settling in | Airflow. Not a cleaning problem, and we will say so |
| Burnt dust when heating starts | Dust on heater panels and in ducts | Vents and panels dusted and washed |
| Sewer smell that keeps returning | A dry trap or a plumbing fault | Traps checked, then flagged for a plumber |
We are straight about the smells cleaning cannot fix. A sewer smell that comes back after the traps have been cleaned is a plumbing fault, and the right person is a plumber. New rubber gives off its own odour for months and fades with ventilation, not chemicals.
Autumn is a good time to look at vents. When the heating first comes on in Melbourne, dust sitting on heater panels and in ducts is often the first thing members notice, and cleaning it before the cold weather avoids the burnt smell altogether.

Grout, wet areas, glass
What happens to grout, wet areas and glass?
Wet areas get what nightly cleans cannot fit in: grout scrubbed at depth, wall tiles washed to the ceiling, exhaust vents cleaned, traps treated and silicone checked. Mirrors and internal glass are cleaned at full height, frames and ledges included.
Grout darkens slowly, so nobody notices until it looks permanent. Most of the time it is body oil and soap film rather than mould, and it lifts with an alkaline scrub and a stiff brush. Where silicone seals have turned black from growth underneath, no cleaning brings them back, so we flag them for re-sealing.
The nightly side of this work is covered under gym change room cleaning.
Outside glass is a separate trade. Shopfronts and exterior windows need access equipment and a window specialist such as commercial window cleaning in Melbourne, while we look after the mirrors, partitions and the inside face of every pane.
Timing
When should a gym book a deep clean?
Most gyms book a deep clean every three months, with extra ones before a franchise audit, a sale or lease handover, the January membership rush, or after an incident such as building works, a leak or an illness going around the club.
Every three months
The routine reset. Booked in advance so it lands on your quietest nights, not whenever there is a gap in the roster.
Before an audit
Franchise inspections and head office visits. We work to the checklist you send and photograph the items the inspector looks at.
Before a sale or new lease
Buyers and landlords judge a gym on first impression. A reset before the walk-through shows the fit-out at its best.
After an incident
Building works, a flood, or an illness spreading among members and staff. These are scoped separately, with more high dusting or wet-area work.
January is the busiest joining month for most gyms, so bookings for a deep clean in Melbourne during late November and December fill up quickly. If you want the reset done before the new members arrive, book early.
After building work, fine dust settles into vents, consoles and the tops of lockers for weeks. A post-works clean carries more high dusting and more filter changes on our vacuums than a routine one.
Pricing
How is a gym deep clean priced?
Deep cleans are priced per scope, not per hour. We walk the site, list every zone, work out the crew and nights needed, and give you one fixed figure. Program clients usually pay less, because a regular deep clean never has to catch up on years of build-up.
The first deep clean at a site is almost always the biggest. After that, quarterly visits start from a better baseline and take less time. That is why we price the first one on its own and then, if you want, fold the rest into your program rate.
A good deep clean quote should list the zones, the nights, the crew size and how machines will be handled. If a quote just says deep clean and a number, you have no way to check what you received.
See how our gym cleaning prices are set for program and one-off rates.
What the quote spells out
- Every zone and what gets done in it
- Crew size and number of nights
- The machine-moving plan
- Before and after photo record
- Anything found that needs a trade
